2026 Park Place Oita Water Play Spot Full-Day Course
This is a summer one-day course that stays entirely in town, starring the Park Place Oita Water Play Spot that appears at the open-air mall-style shopping complex in Akeno, Oita City. In 2026 it runs from Saturday, July 18 to Sunday, September 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and taking part is free. The 1F Center Stage has the Whale Cannon, which shoots water up about 10 meters, and the Water Bridge, while 3F Shangri-La has the Surprise Bucket and the gently falling Sky Shower. Being able to drop by while shopping, with changing, meals and restrooms all handled inside the complex, gives you the kind of peace of mind only a shopping facility can offer. In the morning, head first to the Oita Prefectural Center for Archaeological Heritage (大分県立埋蔵文化財センター), a free facility where items unearthed from sites around the prefecture put you in touch with the ancient past of the ground beneath your feet. Then move your body on the wide lawns of Oita Sports Park and enjoy a sense of openness you would not expect in the middle of a city. Take your time over lunch inside the complex, and in the afternoon it is finally water play time. Even if the weather turns suddenly, you can duck indoors, making this an easy summer outing to plan.
