2026 Nakanoike Park Fountain: A Full Day Course
Nakanoike Park, surrounded by a residential district of Hirakata City, is home to the free Nakanoike Park Fountain (Water Play Plaza). The 2026 season runs from Friday, June 26 until mid-September, open 9:00 to 18:00. Because the closing date is given only as mid-September, it is safest to check whether it is still running before setting out once September begins, and the operating period may also change depending on the weather. Built as a shallow fountain plaza, the water is not deep and sightlines are clear, so parents can let small children play while keeping them in view. There are restrooms in the park and admission is free. Since it runs until 18:00, you can also avoid the midday heat by heading out in the late afternoon. In the morning, visit Hatamono Shrine (機物神社) in Kuraji, Katano City, linked to the Tanabata legend, and touch the stories of a land where a river named after the Milky Way flows nearby. After that, move on to Yamadaike Park (山田池公園) for a walk through the Aquatic Flower Garden (水生花園) and along the pond, with a boxed lunch in the shade. The afternoon is finally fountain time. Local legend, a spacious park, and water play all fit within about a 15-minute drive of one another.
Schedule
Touch the star legends of Katano at a shrine that keeps the Tanabata story alive
Walk the pond shore looking for waterbirds, then picnic in the shade
Splash to your heart's content at the shallow fountain plaza until evening
