2026 Nijozan Furusato Park Waterside Terrace Full-Day Course
This course centers on the Nijozan Furusato Park Waterside Terrace in Katsuragi City (葛城市) and fills a whole day of play close to home. According to the official information from Katsuragi City (updated July 17, 2026), repairs to the Waterside Terrace were completed and it reopened on Saturday, July 18, 2026. The closing date has not been announced, and it becomes a water play area only in summer. Use is free, and the appeal is cooling off while walking or sitting in the shallow man-made stream. The same park has a 7,000-square-meter lawn area, and Wanpaku Playground is equipped with a wooden combination play structure, a log suspension bridge, nets, and slides. There is also a log-cabin-style Toy House, so you never lack a place to play during the strongest sunshine or a sudden shower. Climb the 456 stone steps that are the symbol of the park and you reach an observation deck with a sweeping view backed by Mt. Nijo (二上山). In the morning, visit Taima-dera Temple (當麻寺), where the East Pagoda and West Pagoda, both National Treasures, stand side by side, step into the ring at the Sumo Museum Kehaya-za, which tells of the birthplace of sumo, and finish lunch at the Michi-no-Eki Futakami Park Taima roadside station. Opening hours are 9:00 to 17:00, and the park is closed every Tuesday and Wednesday (open if Wednesday is a public holiday), so check the day of the week before you set out.
