2026: Shiyama Park Wall Fountain Water Play Area - A Full Day Course
A course for a full day of play close to home, starring the water play area at the Shiyama Park wall fountain (artificial waterfall) in Shiyama Park (紫山公園), Izumi Ward, Sendai City (仙台市泉区). The wall fountain, built into the park's slope, sends water cascading down like an artificial waterfall, and the area below becomes a summer playground for children. Use is free, so you can drop by briefly to cool off or spend the whole afternoon playing. Within the park there are a roller slide and a large combination play structure, so children can switch to the equipment when they tire of the water and back to the water when they tire of the equipment, which is a welcome touch. Parking and restrooms are in place, so there is little worry about changing clothes or taking a break. Set within the quiet streetscape of Izumi Park Town, the surrounding area has wide sidewalks and is easy to navigate even with a stroller. In the morning, enjoy children's books at the Miyagi Prefectural Library (宮城県図書館) just a short walk away, have lunch at the commercial facility in Park Town, and then head to the park. The opening period has not been announced and in past years operation has run during the summer vacation period, so check Sendai City's information for the day's status before you set out.
