2026 Otsuboike Park Fountain Plaza (大坪池公園 噴水広場): A Full Day Course
This course, with the Otsuboike Park Fountain Plaza (大坪池公園 噴水広場) in western Miyazaki City as its star, is about spending a whole relaxed day close to home. Otsuboike Park, also known as the Welfare Culture Park (福祉文化公園), is a green, leafy park, and Miyazaki City officially describes it as having a ground-level fountain in one corner that is filled all day long with the happy shouts of children. The ground-level fountain runs only in summer; it is scheduled to open from July through the end of September, from 8:00 to 19:00. Miyazaki City's official page does not state the 2026 opening period explicitly. The 2026 edition of a local parenting magazine lists it as July 1 (Mon), but July 1, 2026 falls on a Wednesday, so the day of the week does not match and it may be carried over from the previous year's listing. The park has a lawn area, play equipment and walking paths, plus one gazebo and two benches, so adults can watch over things from the shade. In the morning, walk the broad hill of the Ikime Burial Mound Group (生目古墳群), a nationally designated historic site, then see the excavated items at the Ikime no Mori Yukokan museum and touch the ancient history sleeping in this land. At lunchtime, spread out your bento on the lawn at Ikime no Mori Sports Park for a break. In the afternoon, move on to Otsuboike Park and play in the spray of the ground-level fountain until evening. On many days the water runs until 19:00, so in the long-daylight season you can also plan an evening visit.
Schedule
Walk among nationally designated burial mounds scattered over a broad hill
See excavated finds in a cool building and learn about ancient Miyazaki
