2026 Mukaihara Riverside Green Space Babbling Brook Waterway: Full-Day Course

This is a one-day course built around the Mukaihara Riverside Green Space Babbling Brook Waterway in Nichinan City, paired with a walk through the Obi castle town. Mukaihara Riverside Green Space is a green area developed on the banks of the Sakatani River (酒谷川), with a shallow babbling waterway running through it. In 2026 it is open from Tuesday, June 30 to Sunday, September 27, from 9:00 to 17:00, and Nichinan City advises that use may be suspended depending on weather and other conditions. It is only about a 5-minute walk from JR Obi Station (JR飫肥駅), and the wide open lawn area is another plus for families. In the morning, walk Obi Castle Ruins (飫肥城跡), the signature site of Nichinan, taking in the castle-town air along the path of stone walls and cedars that leads from the Otemon gate to the honmaru keep site. Then rest at Yoshokan (豫章館), the former lord's residence, looking out over its quiet garden. For lunch, sample local flavors such as obiten fried fish cake and thick sweet rolled omelet along the streets of the Obi castle town. In the afternoon, walk over to Mukaihara Riverside Green Space and play in the babbling waterway until evening.
