2026 Shin-Takaoka Station South Exit Park Waterside Area Full-Day Course
This is a one-day course that is complete right by the station, starring the Shin-Takaoka Station South Exit Park Waterside Area in the park just south of Shin-Takaoka Station on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Takaoka City officially states that a brook runs through the park, expressing the way the Shogawa River flows from the upper reaches of Hida to the Sea of Japan, and that the downstream waterside area uses river stones from the Shogawa to create a space where children can come into contact with water. Walking along a brook that shrinks the flow of the Shogawa into miniature, from upstream to downstream, is an experience unique to this park. It is a neighbourhood park of about 0.6 hectares with no play equipment, but that is exactly why you can concentrate on the water itself. The opening period has not been announced; in most years water is fed into the brook during the summer. Use is free. In the morning, savour the stillness of the temple halls at Zuiryuji, a National Treasure, and at Takaoka Kojo Park walk around the free zoo and the wide moats. Have a proper lunch at Aeon Mall Takaoka near Shin-Takaoka Station, and stocking up on spare clothes and drinks there brings peace of mind. In the afternoon, touch the water while treading on river stones from the Shogawa in the waterside area, and round off the day right by a station that is easy to leave from by train or by car.
