2026 Ishin Hyakunen Memorial Park Ikoi Water Plaza Full-Day Course
This is a course for a full day of play close to home, starring the Ishin Hyakunen Memorial Park Ikoi Water Plaza, a shallow splash pool in Ishin Hyakunen Memorial Park (維新百年記念公園) in Yamaguchi City. In 2026 (Reiwa 8) it is open from Saturday, April 25 to Sunday, September 27, from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free, and with a flowing water slide and a small fountain, children from toddlers just starting to walk up to elementary school age can enjoy it together. A barrier-free slope leads down to the waterside, so strollers and wheelchairs can also get right up to the water, which is a welcome feature. Next door there is a large playground and a children's center, so you can switch to the play equipment when the water gets old, or head indoors when everyone is tired. In the morning, see the dinosaur and science exhibits at the Yamaguchi Prefectural Yamaguchi Museum (山口県立山口博物館), then go a little farther to Kozan Park (香山公園), home to a national treasure five-storied pagoda, for a taste of Yamaguchi. Have lunch on the park lawn, and in the afternoon head to the water plaza to splash to your heart's content. It is closed on Friday mornings for cleaning and also closes in bad weather such as heavy rain, so check the official website for that day's status before you set out. Note too that pets, bicycles and skateboards may not be brought in.
