2026 Nogihama Sogo Park Waterside Pond Full-Day Course

This is a full-day course that walks the wide grounds from morning to evening, starring the Nogihama Sogo Park Waterside Pond (Waterside Plaza), a water play area in Nogihama Sogo Park (乃木浜総合公園) in Shimonoseki City. Completed in 2004, this large waterside plaza is shallow enough to enjoy without a swimsuit, so you can drop by casually on a whim. Features such as an artificial waterfall, built-in water guns and a dolphin-shaped ride keep everyone from toddlers to elementary school children playing for a long time, which is why it is so popular. Use is free. The water is reclaimed advanced-treated water from the neighboring Sanyo Final Treatment Plant (山陽最終処理場). The grounds also hold a large combination play structure, a lawn plaza, a children's plaza and a wild bird observation station, so you do not have to build the whole day around water play alone. The 2026 opening period has not been announced; in past years it has opened during the summer holidays. Be sure to check the official park information for operating status before you set out. In 2026 use was suspended for a time due to a water quality problem, and after improvement was confirmed on July 24 the area reopened. It is completely closed for cleaning all day on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4, so plan around those two days.
