2026 Mamigasaki Riverside Park Seseragi Waterway (馬見ヶ崎河川公園 せせらぎ水路) Full-Day Course
This is a course for a full day of play close to home, starring the Seseragi Waterway at Mamigasaki Riverside Park, Shakado district (馬見ヶ崎河川公園(釈迦堂地区) せせらぎ水路) in Yamagata City. River water is drawn into a shallow channel 5 to 20 cm deep, so it stays chilly even in summer and even small children can safely dip their feet in. Entry is unrestricted, it never closes, and there is no fee. The operating period has not been announced, so check whether it is running before you set out. The parking lot is available from 5:00 to 20:00 and is closed for the winter from December through March. The park also has a basketball court, playground equipment, stoves for imoni (taro stew) and open-sided pavilions that work as eating areas, so there are plenty of ways to spend time beyond water play. In the morning, enjoy the wild mountain plants of Tohoku and the songs of insects at Yamagata City Wild Plant Garden (山形市野草園), taking in the turn of the seasons together as a family. At midday, spread out a packed lunch on the wide lawn of Nishi-Zao Park (西蔵王公園) and play a while on the large playground equipment. In the afternoon, head down to the banks of the Mamigasaki River (馬見ヶ崎川) and stay in the cool, babbling water until evening.
Schedule
Walk among Tohoku wild mountain plants while the morning is still cool
Spread out a packed lunch on the wide lawn, then play on the big equipment
