2026 Full-Day Course: Kiso Sansen Park, Kiso Sansen Park Center Water Play Area
This is a course for spending a full day playing close to home, centered on the Water Play Area (水遊び場) at Kiso Sansen Park, Kiso Sansen Park Center (国営木曽三川公園 木曽三川公園センター) in Kaizu City. The water play area is open from Saturday, July 18 to Monday, August 31, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM during park opening hours. Beside a large flower bed, there's a shallow wading pool lined with natural stones and a small waterfall, designed so that even small children who can't yet swim can safely get in the water. Toys for water play are available for rent during this period, so you can enjoy it even if you come empty-handed. Admission and parking are both free, and the large play equipment and lawn plaza are strengths of this park. In the morning, walk to Chisui Shrine (治水神社), which honors the Satsuma Gishi (薩摩義士) who risked their lives during the Kiso Sansen river-splitting works, and Senbon Matsubara (千本松原), the pine grove that continues along the levee, to get a sense of how this land has grappled with water. At the restored Wajū (輪中) farmhouse, take a look with your children at the ingenuity of daily life prepared for flooding in the old days. This is a day unique to this land — walking through history, then playing in the water that this river's blessings provide.
