2026 Suito no Izumi Splash Pool: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day local outing course starring the Suito no Izumi Splash Pool at the South Block Plaza of JR Ogaki Station in Ogaki City, right outside the station's south exit. A splash pool has been built into a plaza centered on a fountain, and use is free. Hexagonal well-basins shaped after a turtle's shell are set out, letting you enjoy design motifs befitting Ogaki as a town of water. The 2026 opening period has not been announced, so be sure to check the Ogaki City information before you set out. Because it is right in front of the station, its strength is how easy it is to plan a trip by train, changing clothes at the station building before heading home. Spend the morning at Ogaki Castle (大垣城). It served as the Western Army's base in the Battle of Sekigahara, and from the keep you can see out over the city and the Ibuki mountain range. Then stop by Ogaki Hachiman Shrine (大垣八幡神社) and take a look at the Ogaki spring water bubbling up endlessly in the grounds. This is where you will best understand why Ogaki is called the city of water. After lunch, trace the end point of Matsuo Basho's journey at the Oku no Hosomichi Musubi no Chi Memorial Hall, then walk the Shiki no Hiroba park along the Suimon River to the station. After walking all through this town of springs, cap off the day by plunging into real water.
