2026 Poppo Park Shallow Water with Fountain: Full-Day Course

A full-day local outing course starring the Poppo Park (Showa Children's Park) shallow water area with a fountain in Takayama City. It is a park with a gourd-shaped shallow pool with a fountain and some play equipment, conveniently placed within walking distance of the Hakusan Exit (west exit) of Takayama Station (高山駅). Use is free. The 2026 operating period has not been announced, so be sure to check the Takayama City information before you set out. Thanks to its location near the station, it is easy to reach whether you come by train or park near the station and combine it with the old townscape. Spend the morning at Takayama Jinya (高山陣屋). The only surviving Edo-period magistrate's office in the country, it lets you walk through the outdoor courtroom and the spacious tatami rooms of the government office. Next, head to the old townscape of Kamisannomachi (上三之町). Have lunch on a street lined with latticed house fronts and snack your way along with mitarashi dango (grilled rice dumplings) and other Hida flavors. At the Takayama Festival Floats Exhibition Hall (高山祭屋台会館), you can see up close the gorgeous floats that are actually pulled through the streets at the festival. Cool the bodies you have warmed up walking the town in the afternoon at the shallow water in front of the station. A course where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a castle town and easygoing water play in a single day.
