2026 Kasaoka Kodai-no-Oka Sports Park Fureai Plaza Wave Fountain (かさおか古代の丘スポーツ公園 ふれあい広場 ウェーブ噴水): A Full Day Out
A course for spending a full day of play close to home, built around the Wave Fountain at Fureai Plaza in Kasaoka Kodai-no-Oka Sports Park (かさおか古代の丘スポーツ公園 ふれあい広場 ウェーブ噴水) in Kasaoka City. A sculpture stands at the center of Fureai Plaza, and water columns ringed around it rise and fall in turn — a play-focused wave fountain fitted with night lighting. Reading the timing to dash through, or waiting right underneath for a soaking, gives children ways to play that an ordinary fountain cannot. Admission is free and the fountain runs from 10:00 to 16:00. The 2026 operating period has not been announced, so check the Kasaoka City information before you set out. The same park holds a children's plaza with a large dinosaur playset, a campground with 13 sites, a baseball field and sports grounds, so the entire day can be built inside the park. In the morning, visit the Chofukuji Urayama Tomb Cluster (長福寺裏山古墳群) in Yamaguchi, Kasaoka City — the source of the Ancient Hills name — and feel the mound-dotted terrain with your own feet before heading to the park. A day spent playing the Ancient Hills from end to end.
Schedule
Walk the burial mounds lining the hillside and read the ancient terrain
Play on the big dinosaur playset, then break for lunch
Chase the ring of rising and falling water columns until evening
