2026 Iwate Prefectural Goshoko Wide-Area Park Family Land Splash Pond: A Full Day Course
A course for a full day of play close to home, starring the Iwate Prefectural Goshoko Wide-Area Park Family Land Splash Pond, which spreads along the shore of Lake Goshoko in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate District. The splash pond has a wonderfully long season, with water play from mid-April to the end of October, so you can visit not only at the height of summer but also on warm days in spring and autumn. Use is free. Right beside it are a fountain pond, a large combination play structure shaped like a pirate ship, rafts, and an adventure playground, so you can go back and forth between water and play equipment all day. There is a wide Great Lawn, perfect for spreading a picnic sheet and eating a lunch box, and the management building has toilets and information. The 2026 start date has only been announced as mid-April, so check the park's latest notices for operating status before you set out. The pond may be closed for a few days for cleaning; in 2026 the cleaning shutdown from June 1 to 3 has already ended. In the morning, tour the Nanbu rice cracker and craft workshops at Morioka Handcraft Village on the shore of Lake Goshoko, then rest at midday on the lawn overlooking the lake. In the afternoon, play on the pirate ship before heading to the splash pond. It is a day made pleasant by the views of Mt. Iwate and Lake Goshoko.
