2026 WADO Park Hanamaki Jabujabu Pond: Full-Day Course
A course built around the WADO Park Hanamaki (Iwate Prefectural Hanamaki Regional Park) Jabujabu Pond in Hanamaki City, offering a full day of nearby fun. The park is open from April 1, 2026 to mid-December, from 9:00 to 17:00, and admission is free. The opening period of the Jabujabu Pond has not been announced; in past years it has opened during the summer holidays. What makes this pond distinctive is that it draws water from a mountain stream, so the water is refreshingly cold and feels all the better the hotter the day. The park also holds the stream-fed waterside known as the English Coast, named after Miyazawa Kenji's (宮沢賢治) children's stories, a children's playground with a wide variety of equipment, Kanaya Pond (金矢池) where carp and crucian carp swim, and sculptures based on Kenji's tales scattered throughout, making it enjoyable just to walk around. Fridays are cleaning days for the Jabujabu Pond, and use may be suspended during water shortages: in 2025 a suspension was announced on August 1 and it reopened on August 8. Be sure to check the latest operating status before you set out. In the morning, surround yourself with flowers at the Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden, walk the path at Kamabuchi Falls and listen to the water, then have a packed lunch on the park lawn. In the afternoon, play to your heart's content in the cold stream-fed pond for a day that is Hanamaki through and through.
Schedule
