2026 Shingu Central Park (新宮中央公園): A Full Day at the Entrance Plaza Fountain
Shingu Central Park (新宮中央公園), in the heart of Hatsukaichi, is affectionately known as Kendama Park thanks to its kendama-themed playground. The broad entrance plaza at its gateway features a full-scale fountain, and this fountain has become a favorite summer spot for local children. The plaza is large enough to host events, so there is plenty of room to run around in the spray without feeling cramped. Admission is free, and you can move freely between the fountain and the playground. Hatsukaichi is known as the birthplace of the kendama, so playing in a park named after it is itself a way of touching the story of the town. The 2026 operating period has not been announced yet, so check the official website for the latest information before you set out. This one-day course begins with a visit to Hayatani Shrine (速谷神社), long revered as the deity of traffic safety. Next comes lunch at Yume Town Hatsukaichi, and in the afternoon you play on the kendama-themed equipment before heading to the fountain. It is a very Hatsukaichi way to spend a day, linking shrine, town and park.
