2026 Ikoi no Mori Park Children's Plaza Stream: Full Day Course
The Ikoi no Mori Park Children's Plaza Stream, in Ikoi no Mori Park in Higashihiroshima City, is a shallow stream that runs between the areas for younger and older children in the Children's Plaza. The greatest appeal of this park is that it is not a waterway you only look at - you can actually step into the stream and play. The basket-crossing ride over the stream is very popular, and queues form again and again for the thrill of travelling above the water. Use is free and the water is shallow, so it is a fine place for a first river-play experience. The 2026 opening period has not been announced, so please check the official website for the latest information before you go. Note that the park is closed on Wednesdays, so do not forget to check the day of the week. This one-day course begins with a walk along Saijo Sake Brewery Street, known as one of Japan's three great sake-brewing regions. The townscape of white namako walls, red tiles and chimneys is a sight you can see only in Higashihiroshima. Next comes a cool look at the artworks in the Higashihiroshima City Museum of Art, and in the afternoon a bento lunch in the shade of Ikoi no Mori Park before heading to the stream. It is a course that links town walking and nature play in a single day, in true Higashihiroshima style.
