2026 Matsubara Spring Stream Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course close to home, starring the Stream at Matsubara Spring (Shigenobu River Green Space), which wells up in the Shigenobu River green space in Morimatsu-cho, Matsuyama City. The 2026 opening period has not been announced, but this is a spring-fed, water-friendly spot available all year round and it is also listed in Matsuyama City's official water-play guidance. Cold groundwater wells up quietly and constantly from the spring, which was redeveloped through the Shigenobu River Nature Restoration Project. The stream is shallow at about 10 cm deep and forms a restful place surrounded by trees, so it also suits a first experience of water play. In the morning, first pay your respects at Iyozuhikonomikoto Shrine (伊豫豆比古命神社), also known as Tsubaki Shrine, in Iai-cho, Matsuyama City, and take in the atmosphere of a shrine long loved by local people. Then travel about 2 km east to Jonofuchi Park and spend time at the spring pond selected as one of the 100 Famous Waters of Japan and at the children's plaza. This area, where the subsurface flow of the Shigenobu River wells up in many places, is also a water route that has supported daily life in Matsuyama. Once lunch is done, it is finally time for the stream at Matsubara Spring. Under the dappled light through the trees, put your feet into the clear water and relax until evening. Everything is free of charge, and the ease of setting out on a whim is part of the appeal.
