2026 Mizbering Sanjo Seseragi Waterway: A Full-Day Course
The Mizbering Sanjo Seseragi Waterway in Sanjo City is a free water-play spot located in one corner of Sanjo MIZBE Station. The City of Sanjo officially states that 「even small children can enjoy playing in the water with peace of mind」, and this shallow waterway suits a child's very first water play. The opening period has not yet been announced; in past years it has been the summer season. Some days it cannot be used due to snow or other conditions, so check the current status on the City of Sanjo official page before you set out. The same grounds offer play equipment, a 3-on-3 basketball court, a skateboard park, kamado (stove) benches and a cooking area, a flood-control learning hall, and a shower room, so being able to rinse off after water play is a major advantage. The kamado benches and cooking area can be used for barbecue free of charge, so you can even build a family meal into the plan. In the morning, trace the origins of Sanjo, a town of blacksmiths, at the Sanjo City Museum of History, Folklore and Industry (三条市歴史民俗産業資料館), then look up at the great temple halls of Sanjo Betsuin (三条別院), which stands in the center of town. At midday, move to the Tsubame-Sanjo Jibasan Center, popular as a roadside station, and take a break while browsing locally made blades. In the afternoon, at last, head to the Seseragi Waterway by the river and enjoy the splashing until evening. It is a day that ties together the history of a manufacturing town and the waterside of the Ikarashi River (五十嵐川).
