2026 Michi-no-Eki Minami-Uonuma Ikoi-no-Hiroba Water Play Area: A Full-Day Course

The water play area at Michi-no-Eki Minami-Uonuma Yukiakari Ikoi-no-Hiroba in Minami-Uonuma City is a free spot where you can play in shallow water about 30 cm deep. The opening period has not been announced; officially only 「hours of use are 9:00-17:00, and it cannot be used during the winter season」 has been published. It may be unavailable due to weather conditions or equipment inspections, so check the current status on the michi-no-eki official page before you set out. It is not a swimming pool, but the water is filtered, circulated and disinfected, which gives peace of mind as a place to let small children play. Note, however, that filtration, circulation and disinfection are not carried out when the Imaizumi Memorial Hall (今泉記念館) is closed, so it is safest to schedule your visit for a day the hall is open. Ikoi-no-Hiroba also has an air dome, a slide and a sand play area, so there is no shortage of places to play after getting out of the water. On the same grounds are the Imaizumi Memorial Hall (今泉記念館), Shiki Ajiwaikan and a dining area, so meals and shopping are all completed without moving elsewhere. In the morning, visit Untoan (雲洞庵), an ancient temple representing Minami-Uonuma, where the stone-paved approach and quiet temple halls let you feel the air of a temple where Uesugi Kagekatsu (上杉景勝) and Naoe Kanetsugu (直江兼続) are said to have studied. In the afternoon, return to the michi-no-eki, tour the Imaizumi Memorial Hall and Shiki Ajiwaikan, then play in the water until evening. History, food and water play all come together in one day on this course that is quintessentially Minami-Uonuma.
