2026 Kodomo no Mori Park Water Monument: A Full Day Course
Kodomo no Mori Park in Shinagawa Ward has the Kodomo no Mori Park Water Monument (shower water play), where water pours down from three colourful pipes of differing heights. The showers run six times a day for 15 minutes each, and children gathering all at once when the time comes is a summer fixture of this park. Eight dinosaur statues stand in the grounds, and locals know it affectionately as Kaiju Park (monster park). For 2026 the season is expected to run from Wednesday 1 July to around Wednesday 30 September, but the ward's official page does not state the operating period, so this is an estimate based on how it has run in past years. Check the operating status on the official Shinagawa Ward page before setting out. Admission is free. The venue is Kodomo no Mori Park in Shinagawa Ward, within walking distance of Kita-Shinagawa (北品川), once a post town on the Old Tokaido. In the morning, pay a visit to Shinagawa Shrine (品川神社) on its hilltop and climb Shinagawa Fuji in the precinct for a view over the town. Then look out over the Shinagawa-ura Boat Basin (品川浦船溜り) with its rows of pleasure boats, and have lunch while snacking your way along the shopping street of the Old Tokaido Shinagawa-juku. In the afternoon, get soaked at the Kodomo no Mori Park Water Monument (shower water play), surrounded by dinosaurs. It is a day that feels quintessentially Shinagawa, where memories of an Edo post town and the cheers of children exist side by side.
