2026 Akebono Park Water Play Facility (明保野公園 水遊び施設) Full-Day Course
This full-day course centers on the Akebono Park Water Play Facility (明保野公園 水遊び施設) in Akebono-cho, Utsunomiya City, taking you around the city's historic sites and a museum before heading to the water play area. According to the City of Utsunomiya, in the 2026 season the water runs from July 18 (Sat) through August 30 (Sun), from 10:00 to 16:00. Admission is free, and besides the water play area with its water flows, fountains, and pond, the facility is well equipped with a lawn plaza, a wooded plaza, combination play equipment, swings, and even a sandbox. It is scheduled to close for regular cleaning from August 20 to August 21, so plan around those days. Bare feet are not allowed in the water, so be sure to bring sandals or other footwear. In the morning, visit Utsunomiya Castle Ruins Park (宇都宮城址公園), where the main enclosure's earthen ramparts and moat have been restored, and get a feel for the origins of this former castle town. Next, tour the Tochigi Prefectural Museum (栃木県立博物館), located in a corner of Tochigi Prefectural Central Park (栃木県中央公園), to see the prefecture's nature and history all in one place. After spreading out lunch by the park's pond, move on to Akebono Park (明保野公園) in the afternoon and go back and forth between the water and the play equipment until evening. Being able to cover this much within the city area is a convenience unique to Utsunomiya.
