2026 Oji Town Oji Minami Compulsory Education School Taishi Gakusha Pool Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on Oji Town's 'Oji Town Oji Minami Compulsory Education School Taishi Gakusha Pool' (王寺町立王寺南義務教育学校 太子学舎プール), which is open to the public only for the short period from Saturday, August 1 to Monday, August 10, 2026. It's an initiative that opens the school pool to the community during summer vacation, and use is free. A mini pool for young children is also available, so siblings can enjoy it together. In the morning, first visit Horyuji Temple (法隆寺), a World Heritage Site. Walk through the temple complex, known as the oldest surviving group of wooden buildings in the world, and feel the weight of over a thousand years of history in front of the five-story pagoda and Kondo. Next, stop by Daruma-ji Temple (達磨寺) in Oji Town to see the statue of Yukimaru, said to have been Prince Shotoku's beloved dog. In the afternoon, move to the Taishi Gakusha pool and play in the water alongside local children. Rather than a tourist facility, this is a pool that's part of the town's everyday life, and spending an afternoon there will make for a different kind of summer memory. Since the opening period is only 10 days, be sure to secure your dates early.
