2026 Kure City Shimokamagari Pool Full-Day Course
This one-day course centers on Kure City Shimokamagari Pool, located on an island in the Seto Inland Sea, which typically opens from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31. It consists of two pools: a 25m x 13m pool (0.7-1.3m deep, six lanes) and a shallower 12.5m x 6m pool (0.6m deep), so kids who want to swim and little ones getting used to the water each have their own space. Admission is an affordable 200 yen per visit for general visitors and 100 yen per visit for high schoolers and younger. The journey itself, crossing the Akinada Great Bridge onto the island, already gives you a bit of a getaway feeling. In the morning, start at Shotoen Garden in the Sannose district. Take your time exploring the garden, which borrows the Seto Inland Sea as its backdrop, along with exhibits related to the Korean embassies to Japan (Joseon Tongsinsa) from the Edo period. Next, cross the Kamagari Bridge to Kaminokamagari Island's Kenmin-no-Hama Beach and have lunch while taking in the white sand, chosen as one of Japan's 100 Best Beaches, and the clear sea. Once past noon, head into Kure City Shimokamagari Pool and spend the afternoon in the water until evening. Island, sea, and water play all packed into one day - a course that captures the essence of Setouchi.
