2026 Kure City Yutaka Pool: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on Kure City Yutaka Pool (呉市豊プール), which typically opens from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31. It features a 25m x 14m pool (1.1-1.3m deep, 6 lanes) as well as a 7m x 4m children's pool (0.7m deep), so both kids who want to swim seriously and those trying water play for the first time can enjoy the same location. Admission is affordable at 200 yen per visit for adults and 100 yen per visit for high school students and younger. The venue is on Osakishimojima Island (大崎下島), a Seto Inland Sea island connected by the bridges of the Tobishima Kaido (とびしま海道), surrounded by tranquil scenery of mandarin orange groves and blue sea. In the morning, start at the Mitarai District (御手洗地区), whose townscape flourished in the Edo period as a port where ships waited for the tide and has been designated an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings; simply walking among the old buildings lining the narrow lanes is a pleasure in itself. Next, stop by Kenmin no Hama Beach (県民の浜) on Kamikamagari Island (上蒲刈島) and take in the beautiful sand, selected as one of Japan's 100 Best Shores, along with the blue sea. Once past noon, head to Kure City Yutaka Pool and spend the whole afternoon in the water. It's a summer day that combines island-hopping with water play, in true Seto Inland Sea style.
