2026 Shikagawa Elementary School Pool: A Full-Day Course
This is a full-day course centered on Shikagawa Elementary School Pool (鹿川小学校プール, open to the public during summer vacation) in Etajima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, running from Tuesday, July 21 through Friday, August 7, 2026 (closed every Saturday and Sunday, and August 6; the substitute open days are August 10 and 11). The 25m pool and small pool are opened to the community, and admission is free. It's a chance for families to swim in a school pool - an experience unique to summer vacation. In the morning, visit the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force First Service School (海上自衛隊 第1術科学校). The red-brick Students' Hall and Great Auditorium, built as the former Naval Academy, are still in active use today, and a guided tour lets you visit the interior and the Education Museum. The weight of a place where Japan's modern history remains as it was resonates especially with adults. Next, at Etajima Olive Factory (江田島オリーブファクトリー), experience the world of olives grown under the Seto Inland Sea sun. History, the island's bounty, and water play - a day on an island reached by ferry.
