2026 Nomi Junior High School Pool: A Full Day Out
This one-day course centers on Nomi Junior High School Pool (Summer Public Opening) (能美中学校プール(夏休み一般開放)) in Etajima City, open from July 21 to August 7, 2026. During summer break, the junior high school's 25m pool and children's pool are opened to the community free of charge, with the distinctive feature that it's open on weekdays only. Being a school pool, the facilities are simple, but that also means it's never too crowded, letting kids enjoy the water at their own pace. The morning starts at Shindoyama Forest Park (真道山森林公園), where the observation deck offers a sweeping view of the Seto Inland Sea and its islands, letting you see Etajima's shape with your own eyes. Next comes the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force First Service School (海上自衛隊第1術科学校), where a guided tour takes you through the red-brick Students' Hall and Great Hall of the former Naval Academy, so you can feel the weight of buildings that have stood since the Meiji era. The afternoon is for water play at Nomi Junior High School Pool (Summer Public Opening). Scenery, history, and water play come together in one day — a way of spending time that feels distinctly Etajima.
