2026 Mitaka City Osawa Community Center Outdoor Pool: A Full Day Course
This is a one-day course in Osawa, Mitaka City, centered on the Mitaka City Osawa Community Center Outdoor Pool, open from Wednesday, July 22 through Sunday, August 23, 2026. In the morning, head to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan's Mitaka Campus. Observation facilities built from the Taisho through Showa eras are scattered across the lush, tree-filled grounds, and you can tour the interiors of the Large Refractor Dome and the First Equatorial Dome. It's a quiet, intellectually stimulating time that can even tie into a summer-break research project. Next, head to Jindaiji Temple. This ancient temple, known for warding off misfortune, has grounds and a front approach shaded by trees that stay cool even in midsummer, letting you feel the area's abundant spring water. In the afternoon, head to the Osawa Community Center Outdoor Pool. It has a 25m x 10.5m pool (water depth from 1.3m near the entrance to 1.1m at the far end) and a pool for young children, used on a two-hour time-slot basis. The fee is very reasonable: 50 yen for elementary and junior high school students and 200 yen for high schoolers and up, per two-hour slot. This is a day connecting an observatory, an ancient temple, and a community pool.
