2026 Tanakami Park Pool One-Day Course
This one-day course centers on Tanakami Park Pool (田上公園プール) in Otsu City, open from Monday, July 20 through Monday, August 31, 2026. It features a 25m pool and a kiddie pool, and is run on a shift system from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm. This itinerary makes full use of the afternoon session, spending the morning visiting sights along the Seta River. Admission is 490 yen for adults, and 330 yen for children (junior-high age and under), those 65 and over, and people with disabilities. First, visit Ishiyama-dera Temple (石山寺), said to be where Murasaki Shikibu conceived The Tale of Genji. Walk past the main hall built atop a massive natural monument of wollastonite and the tree-lined approach. Next, head to the Aqua Biwa Water Blessing Museum (水のめぐみ館アクア琵琶) at the foot of the Seta River Weir, and enjoy learning about the relationship between Lake Biwa's water and people's lives. From 1pm, enter Tanakami Park Pool and make full use of the afternoon shift to enjoy playing in the water. It's a quintessentially Shiga day tracing the Seta River, the only river flowing out of Lake Biwa.
