2026 Sozuka Citizens' Pool One-Day Course
This one-day course centers on Otsu City's 'Sozuka Citizens' Pool' in Shiga Prefecture, open from Monday, July 20 to Monday, August 31, 2026. It's a municipal outdoor pool in the southern part of Otsu City, near the Seta River, with a 25-meter pool and a children's pool. The pool runs on a two-session changeover system, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM (with a break from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM), so this course is arranged to explore the surrounding area in the morning and enjoy the pool during the 1:00 PM session. Start at Ishiyama-dera Temple, the 13th temple of the Saigoku Sanjusansho Kannon pilgrimage. This ancient temple is said to be where Murasaki Shikibu conceived The Tale of Genji, and its highlights include a natural-monument outcrop of wollastonite rock and a National Treasure main hall. Next, try catching fish by hand or fishing at Nango Suisan Center. After a break for lunch, spend the afternoon at Sozuka Citizens' Pool. Admission is 490 yen for general visitors and 330 yen for junior high school students, seniors, and people with disabilities. Enjoy a day of history and water play along the banks of the Seta River.
