2026 Satsuki Park Pool One-Day Course
This one-day course centers on Satsuki Park Pool in Izumizaki Village, Fukushima Prefecture, open from Saturday, July 18 to Monday, August 24, 2026. Surprisingly well-equipped for a village-run facility, it features an 8-lane 50-meter pool, a 6-lane 25-meter pool, a children's pool, and a toddlers' pool. Admission is on a two-session changeover system: Session 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:25 a.m., and Session 2 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:55 p.m. This course spends the morning touring Shirakawa's landmarks, then makes the most of Session 2 at the pool. First, visit Komine Castle, one of the Tohoku region's leading castles, whose three-story turret, burned down in the Boshin War, has been faithfully reconstructed in wood. Next, head to Nanko Park, said to be Japan's oldest park, and walk through its elegant lakeside scenery, created by Shirakawa domain lord Matsudaira Sadanobu as a place for everyone to enjoy regardless of social status. Admission is 200 yen for adults, 50 yen for elementary and middle school students, and free for young children. A day that luxuriously combines Shirakawa's history with the village pool.
