2026 Autumn Leaves at Oyama-dera Temple: A Full-Day Course
Spend a day enjoying the autumn leaves covering the stone steps at Oyama-dera Temple (大山寺) in Isehara City, affectionately known as the 'maple temple of Oyama.' The leaves are typically at their best from mid to late November, starting to change color from early November. The maple trees lining both sides of the stone steps leading up to the main hall turn a brilliant red, creating one of the most beautiful sights in the prefecture. Nighttime illuminations have been held during the autumn leaf season in the past - in 2025 they ran from November 21 to 30 (the 2026 schedule has not yet been announced, so please check the official website before you go). During the same period, a maple-leaf quiz rally and a market with food trucks have also been held along the old approach road. In the morning, browse the souvenir shops along Koma-sando (こま参道), and in the afternoon head to the highlight of the trip, the autumn leaves at Oyama-dera Temple. A course for enjoying a family pilgrimage to Mount Oyama.
