2026 Full-Day Course: Autumn Colors at Daichinji Temple (大椿寺)
Spend a quiet autumn day in the port town at Daichinji Temple (大椿寺) in Miura City, close to Misaki Port, known for its tuna. Daichinji is a Rinzai Zen temple said to be the site of the ‘Tsubaki Palace’ (Camellia Palace), one of the three palaces that Minamoto no Yoritomo established in Misaki. After Yoritomo's death, it is said that the nun Myogoni, who had ties to him, converted the palace into a temple, and it has long been cherished as a famous spot for camellias. In autumn, the trees on the temple grounds turn color, letting visitors feel the season amid the port town's relaxed atmosphere. In the morning, enjoy shopping for Misaki tuna and Miura vegetables, plus lunch, at Urari Marché (うらりマルシェ), Misaki Port's direct-sales center, then head to Daichinji Temple in the afternoon. This is an autumn course unique to the Miura Peninsula, combining seafood with a stroll through history.
