2026 Autumn Leaves at Onshi Hakone Park: A Full-Day Course
Spend a day enjoying autumn leaves set against Mt. Fuji and the lake at Onshi Hakone Park (恩賜箱根公園), which spreads across a peninsula jutting into Lake Ashi (芦ノ湖). In the Lake Ashi area, the leaves typically begin to turn in early November, reaching their peak from mid to late November. Maple trees color the gardens of the former Hakone Imperial Villa (旧箱根離宮) site, and from around the Lakeside Observation Hall (湖畔展望館) you can capture Mt. Fuji, Lake Ashi, and the autumn foliage in a single view. Admission is free. In the morning, pay your respects at Hakone Shrine (箱根神社) and visit Hakone Checkpoint (箱根関所), a reconstruction of the Edo-period checkpoint, then spend a relaxed afternoon strolling through the park's autumn scenery. Walkable along the lakeshore from Moto-Hakone (元箱根) to Hakone-machi Port (箱根町港), this autumn course packs in all of Hakone's classic highlights.
