2026 Full-Day Course: Autumn Leaves Near the Amazake Teahouse on the Old Tokaido
Spend a day enjoying the mountain autumn leaves on the Hakone Old Tokaido, which still retains the atmosphere of the Edo-period Tokaido highway. In the Moto-Hakone/Old Tokaido area, the leaves are usually at their best from late October to mid-November. Red maple leaves dance around the thatched-roof Amazake Teahouse, which has stood for about 400 years, creating a scene that feels like stepping back in time. In the morning, head from Hakone-Yumoto Station along the Old Tokaido to Hatajuku, home of the traditional craft of Hakone yosegi zaiku (marquetry), and visit the free-admission Hatajuku Yosegi Kaikan. In the afternoon, feel the stone pavement of the Old Tokaido underfoot as you head toward the Amazake Teahouse. This course, where you can rest with the famous amazake and chikara-mochi while strolling through the autumn highway at a relaxed pace, is perfect for history-loving families.
