2026 Full-Day Autumn Leaves Course at Meigetsu-in Temple
Meigetsu-in Temple in Kita-Kamakura, famed as the Hydrangea Temple, transforms into a renowned spot for autumn leaves in the fall. The best viewing season is typically from late November to early December. The temple's signature sight is the maple trees in the rear garden of the main hall, viewed through the round window called Satori no Mado (Window of Enlightenment); this garden is normally closed to the public and only opens specially during the iris and autumn foliage seasons. Admission is 500 yen for high school students and above, and 300 yen for elementary and junior high school students, with an additional 500 yen for the rear garden. The temple is open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. In the morning, explore the dignified temple complex of Engaku-ji, one of the Kamakura Five Mountains, just steps from Kita-Kamakura Station, then spend the afternoon at Meigetsu-in. Compact enough to cover entirely on foot, this course lets even families with children comfortably enjoy autumn in Kita-Kamakura.
