2026 Tokei-ji Autumn Leaves: A Full-Day Course
Centered on Tokei-ji, a quiet old temple in Kita-Kamakura, this is a day for savoring late-autumn Kamakura at a relaxed pace. Autumn leaves in Kamakura city are usually at their best from late November to early December, and the mountain-nestled Kita-Kamakura is wrapped in the autumn air typical of a temple town. In the morning, head to Engaku-ji, just steps from Kita-Kamakura Station. After a leisurely walk through its spacious grounds, head in the afternoon to Tokei-ji, a few minutes' walk from the station. This historic nunnery, once known as a 'divorce temple,' does not charge an admission fee, but officially asks visitors to pray at the main hall and make an offering instead. Photography is prohibited on the grounds, so put your camera away and take the time to savor the season with your eyes and heart. With its highlights compact enough to explore comfortably even with children, this is a quiet autumn course typical of Kita-Kamakura.
