2026 Matsudayama (松田山) Meoto Icho (Husband-and-Wife Ginkgo) and Ginkgo Avenue Autumn Colors: A Full-Day Course
Spend a day enjoying the autumn foliage of the Meoto Icho (a paired male-and-female ginkgo tree) and the ginkgo tree-lined avenue on the grounds of me-byo valley BIOTOPIA, a facility on a hill overlooking the Ashigara Plain. The Meoto Icho, said to have been transplanted about 50 years ago from street trees in Marunouchi, Tokyo (in front of the Imperial Palace), typically turns a golden color from mid to late November each year, with a carpet of yellow fallen leaves spreading underfoot. BIOTOPIA also has a marche and restaurant featuring local ingredients, making it a great spot for families to relax over lunch or a snack. The course starts at Shin-Matsuda Station in the morning, with a meal at the marche, followed by a leisurely afternoon stroll that culminates in the golden ginkgo avenue.
