2026 One-Day Course to Enjoy Zuisen-ji Temple's Autumn Leaves
Spend a day savoring Kamakura in December at Zuisen-ji Temple, where you can enjoy the latest autumn leaves in Kamakura. The best viewing season is typically from early to late December. This ancient temple stands in a valley called Momijigayatsu (Maple Valley), where the maples in the grounds and valley turn color, and you can enjoy them together with the rock garden (a Place of Scenic Beauty) carved by the priest Muso Kokushi, the only one remaining from the Kamakura period. Admission is 200 yen for adults and 100 yen for elementary and junior high school students, and visiting hours are 9:00-17:00 (last entry 16:30). In the morning, visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, then head via Kamakura-gu Shrine to the quiet valley of Nikaido. This is a course for families to walk leisurely through Kamakura in December, when the crowds have settled down.
