2026 Full-Day Autumn Foliage Course at Kanagawa Prefectural 21st Century Forest (神奈川県立21世紀の森)
Spend a day enjoying quiet autumn foliage at the Kanagawa Prefectural 21st Century Forest (神奈川県立21世紀の森), spread across the mountains of Minami-Ashigara. The best viewing season is typically late November to early December. The large Japanese maple visible in front of the Forest Hall (森林館) is beautiful, and on the slopes near the Forest Hall, maples turn brilliant shades of red and yellow. Admission to the park is free, and the Forest Hall and Forest Interaction Center (森林ふれあいセンター) are also free to enter. Enjoy exhibits filled with the scent of wood while learning about the forest's ecosystem. In the morning, enjoy local produce and Ashigara cuisine at the roadside station 'Ashigara Kintaro no Furusato' (道の駅 足柄・金太郎のふるさと), which opened in 2020, and in the afternoon take a leisurely foliage walk through the forest. A course that makes you want to take a deep breath in the forest, offering a different flavor from the bustling, famous foliage spots.
