2026 Kanagawa Prefectural Zama Yatoyama Park (座間谷戸山公園) Autumn Leaves: A Full-Day Course
Spend a day slowly savoring the autumn of a traditional satoyama landscape at Kanagawa Prefectural Zama Yatoyama Park (座間谷戸山公園) in Zama City. The autumn leaves are typically at their best from mid-November to mid-December. This nature observation park, made up of 'satoyama village,' 'mountain,' and 'waterside' areas, turns red and yellow in its coppice woods, and the autumn foliage reflected in the 'Waterfowl Pond' (水鳥の池) is simply stunning. Admission is free and the park has no closed days. With boardwalks and observation huts, walking while spotting waterfowl and wild birds turns the whole park into a living nature encyclopedia for children. In the morning, stop by Suzuka Myojin Shrine (鈴鹿明神社), the guardian shrine of Zama, and stroll through its sacred grove. Understated but deeply moving, this is a satoyama autumn-leaf walking course.
