2026 Shomyoji Temple Autumn Leaves: A Full-Day Course
This is a day to savor the colors of late autumn at Shomyoji Temple, an ancient temple in Kanazawa Ward, Yokohama. The best viewing season typically runs from mid-November to early December. Towering ginkgo trees over 800 years old stand by the edge of Aji-ga-ike Pond and near the Nio Gate; after turning golden, the fallen leaves spread across the temple grounds like a carpet. In the morning, walk from Kanazawa-Bunko Station to Umi-no-Koen (Sea Park), where about 1km of sandy beach awaits. After enjoying the seaside air, spend the afternoon savoring Shomyoji Temple's garden and its great ginkgo tree. A free garden guided tour (10:00-12:30) is held every Saturday and Sunday, so families who want to hear the temple's history as they walk can also visit Shomyoji first in the morning. This is a Kanazawa-only autumn stroll course letting you enjoy the sea and an ancient temple within a single station's reach.
