2026 Kentoji Temple Autumn Leaves: A Full-Day Course
In Misaki, a tuna port town, this is a day to savor seafood and the autumn of a small ancient temple. Kentoji Temple is a Rinzai-sect temple said to stand on the former site of Minamoto no Yoritomo's villa, the Momo no Gosho (Peach Palace), and it is a pilgrimage site for Torin Hotei-son, one of the Miura Seven Lucky Gods. In autumn, the maple trees on the temple grounds turn color. The autumn foliage on the Miura Peninsula typically peaks from mid-November to mid-December, but the temple's specific viewing period has not been confirmed, so please check local conditions before visiting. Visits are by voluntary donation, and parking is available. In the morning, enjoy shopping for Misaki tuna and Miura vegetables at Urari Marche in Misaki Port, and in the afternoon head to Kentoji Temple while taking in the port-town air. This is a relaxed autumn course touring Misaki's two faces: the lively market and the quiet temple grounds.
