2026 Hashiriyu Shrine Autumn Foliage: A Full-Day Course
A day spent visiting Hashiriyu Shrine (走湯神社), the guardian shrine of the former village of Kaneda in Miura City, to see its ginkgo trees turn golden after several hundred years of growth. Two towering ginkgo trees, one male and one female, stand in the grounds, protected trees of Miura City selected among the '50 Notable Old and Famous Trees of Kamakura and the Miura Peninsula.' The golden foliage usually peaks from late November to early December, and the golden-hued trees with their carpet of fallen yellow leaves make for a scene that feels like a reward reserved just for this season. Visits are by voluntary donation. In the morning, head from Miura-Kaigan Station to the shore and take a leisurely stroll along Miura Kaigan in late autumn. After enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the waves, head to the Kaneda settlement in the afternoon to meet the towering ginkgo trees in the quiet shrine grounds. This is a small, quintessentially Miura trip that lets you savor both the sea and the countryside.
