2026 Full-Day Autumn Foliage Course at Lake Shinsei (震生湖)
Spend a day savoring the autumn foliage reflected on the water at Lake Shinsei (震生湖), which sits quietly in the countryside of Hadano. Lake Shinsei was formed when a landslide during the Great Kanto Earthquake (1923) dammed a stream. During the typical viewing season of late November to early December, maples along the lakeshore turn red and yellow, and on windless days the autumn colors are reflected on the calm lake surface. In the morning, true to Hadano's reputation as a town of famous spring water, visit Imaizumi Meisui Sakura Park (今泉名水桜公園), about a 5-minute walk from Hadano Station. Imaizumi Spring Pond (今泉湧水池), boasting one of the largest water flows among the 'Hadano Basin Spring Water Group', one of Japan's Top 100 Waters, is so clear you can see all the way to the bottom of the pond. In the afternoon, move on to Lake Shinsei for a foliage walk around the lake. This countryside autumn course lets you walk and talk with your children about the story of this young lake, born just over 100 years ago.
