2026 Shonan no Hoseki (Jewel of Shonan) Illumination: A Full-Day Enoshima Course
Spend a full day enjoying the whole of Enoshima lit up for 'Shonan no Hoseki (Jewel of Shonan),' one of the three great illuminations of the Kanto region. The 2026-27 season runs from December 1, 2026 to February 28, 2027 (officially confirmed; detailed program updated periodically). A 360-degree space of light centered on the Enoshima Sea Candle, along with the 'Shonan Chandelier,' colors various spots around the island, and the sight has been certified as one of Japan's Night View Heritage sites. Start in the early afternoon with some street food along Benzaiten Nakamise Street, pay your respects at Enoshima Shrine, then head to the Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden in the evening. When the lights switch on at 5:00 PM, an Enoshima of light completely different from its daytime appearance emerges. Viewing the island is free; for Cocking Garden, during nighttime events, admission after 5:00 PM is 500 yen for adults and 250 yen for elementary school children. Since lighting hours vary by schedule, please check the official website before heading out. Winter evenings bring cold sea breezes, so dress warmly.
