2026 Yokosuka-Chuo Illumination: A Full-Day Course
This is a day exploring Yokosuka's highlights, centered on the 'Yokosuka-Chuo Illumination' (横須賀中央イルミネーション), which bathes Yokosuka-Chuo Station, the gateway to the port town of Yokosuka, in light. The venue is the Yokosuka-Chuo Station square (under the Y-Deck) and Yokosuka-Chuo Main Street, and it is typically held from early December through late March (last year's run: December 1, 2025 to March 22, 2026). The schedule and lighting hours for the 2026-27 season have not yet been announced, so please check the official website before heading out. In the early afternoon, visit Mikasa Park to see the 'Mikasa' (三笠), one of the world's three great memorial ships, then take a stroll through the seaside Verny Park. In the evening, head to Yokosuka-Chuo Station. The main street in front of the station takes on a completely different look once the lights come on. Since the sea breeze turns cold on winter evenings, be sure to dress warmly.
