Yokosuka Countdown (Verny Park) 2026: A One-Day Course
A day spent ringing in the New Year at Verny Park in Yokosuka on New Year's Eve. Yokosuka Countdown is usually held from around 18:00 on December 31 to around 1:00 on January 1, and last time about five minutes of fireworks went up starting at midnight (the schedule for the end of 2026 has not yet been announced, so please check the official website). In the early afternoon, visit Mikasa Park to see the Mikasa, one of the world's three great memorial battleships. In the evening, stroll through Dobuita Street, the birthplace of the sukajan jacket. Once it gets dark, head to the Ikoi no Hiroba plaza in Verny Park. Surrounded by the lights of ships moored in the harbor and the bustle of the event, you can spend the final hours of the year in style. Families with young children can enjoy plenty of the atmosphere even during the earlier evening hours. The seaside gets cold on New Year's Eve, so please dress as warmly as possible.
