This is a day to enjoy 'Higashi-Totsuka Music Light,' when the area in front of JR Higashi-Totsuka Station is wrapped in light, together with a local park and the shopping mall directly connected to the station. It typically runs from early November to mid-February (the 2025-26 season ran from November 1 to February 14) - a long season - but the schedule for the 2026-27 season has not yet been announced, so please check the official website before heading out. The venues are the West Exit station plaza, Morera Park, and the Due Bridge at the East Exit, and viewing is free. In the early afternoon, play to your heart's content at Shinano Central Park, just a short walk from the station, then shop and grab a snack at Aurora City directly connected to the station, before heading back to the station in time for the evening lighting. This is a winter outing that's easy to reach by train, with lights to explore on both the east and west sides of the station. It gets cold at that hour, so dress warmly.
